These works reference my own Southern upbringing in the guise of a narrative about a small southern town steeped in mystery, magic and the unexplained. I have a lot of fun with the paintings, and there is an element of both humor and horror in them.
Much of my personal life is in these paintings. There are experiences from my childhood that inform my work, and I think expand and heighten my work, but the paintings are not autobiographical in the literal sense. I feel that these personal elements operate within the narrative to make the work meaningful to others as well as to myself.
